Why Boxing Is Great For Weight Loss

Boxing has become today’s program for anyone who wants a lean, toned, strong body … at any age with any body type.

If you’ve never boxed before or if you’ve had experience, The Boxing Loft  tailors routines that fit your personal needs and experience. Most workouts are held in small groups, but private training is available. Everyone begins with strength and conditioning to prepare their bodies for boxing training.  We begin with the fundamentals: footwork, punching—using the proper techniques—then defence.

What can I expect in a workout?

A typical workout consists of warm-up, followed by boxing and/or specific drills and finishes with callisthenics and core exercises.

Workouts are designed to challenge and inspire, but never to discourage.  Boxing is a high intensity, full body workout.  You’re moving all the time, so be prepared to work.

What benefits will I see?

Weight loss, improved balance, coordination and agility, and better focus combine to instil confidence and greater all around fitness.  A mistaken notion is that boxing is all about the arms; boxing is a workout for your whole body.  Boxing is terrific for tightening glutes, quadriceps and hamstring muscles. Boxing is perfect for women who want to lose weight around their bottoms and thighs and excellent for strengthening calves, core, back and chest muscles.

Don’t worry about bulking up. Boxing at The Boxing Loft is a highly rhythmic, active workout, so muscles lengthen like a dancer, not bulk up like a weight lifter.

Will I get hurt?

All forms of physical activity have elements of risk. The Boxing Loft  trainers are adamant and sticklers about using correct technique and allowing adequate time between training sessions to enable your body time to rejuvenate.

I’ve never boxed in my life. Will I be able to do it?

Anyone can box as long as you have the will to learn and to train beyond your comfort zone.

What equipment do I need?

You’ll need a bottle of water and running shoes.  We begin by preparing your body to develop endurance for the active training.

Once you’re ready to box, you’ll need hand wraps and boxing gloves.

Like most of us, I've had several gym memberships and tried a lot of fitness fads but nothing ever clicked for me until I joined The Boxing Loft more than a year ago. In that time, there has been a marked improvement in my fitness level and physique, but more than that I look forward to every training session - I'd certainly never said that before!
